Audiences will gather for a variety of historical enactments, workshops, and discussions at the 2017 Oklahoma Chautauqua in Enid. This year's event will focus on the theme "Cowboys & Cattle Trails," examining the roles cattle drives and cowboys played in shaping American history and culture from the 1840s to the 1890s.
Daytime workshops will be held at the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center at 10:30 am and 12:00 pm. Evening programs will begin with local entertainment at the Heritage Center at 6:30 pm and the feature presentation at 7:30 pm. The evening events will include first person presentations and audience questions to a historical figure in character and to the scholar portraying the character. Portrayals of figures such as Jesse Chisolm, Judge Isaac Parker, and more will provide a close-up view of this era in Oklahoma history as well as presenting a broader, national perspective. All Chautauqua programs are free and open to the public.
