Event Details

Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center presents ArtNow: The Soul is a Wanderer.  Artists featured in the ArtNow exhibit have produced works inspired by the poem "A Map to the Next World" by Joy Harjo, the 23rd Poet Laureate of the United States.  The poem and the works address our state's unique cultures and history, including Oklahoma's All-Black Towns and our state's complex history with Native American tribes.  The Learning Gallery complements the main exhibition by utilizing literature, history, and art to explore how the works featured in ArtNow fit into the broader context of United States history, the future of the U.S. and the world.  Interactives and art act as additional entry points into the poem's themes of envisioning the future, accepting our histories, and considering the land before planning the future.
