Save Oklahoma Humanities | Unlock Matching Funds with Your Donation | Take Action Toolkit
At the direction of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), all 56 state, jurisdictional, and territorial, humanities councils, including Oklahoma Humanities (OH), received termination of general operating support grant notices last month from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). This critical funding represents the majority of OH's funding.
In response to these federal funding cuts that have devastated state humanities councils, the Mellon Foundation recently announced a $15 million emergency funding commitment to the Federation of State Humanities Councils.
This emergency funding will help provide temporary, stabilizing support to all 56 state and jurisdictional humanities councils across the United States, including up to $250,000 for Oklahoma Humanities.
Each humanities council will receive an immediate unrestricted grant of $200,000 outright, with an additional $50,000 available to each council to use as a Challenge Fund to help drive direct donations from individuals, businesses, and philanthropies in their local communities.
Any donation received by Oklahoma Humanities now through December 31, 2025, counts towards this match.
In addition to donations, you can also support us by taking action in other ways. Our Take Action Toolkit includes resources on how you can contact your representatives and senators, share our story on social media, explore our impact, and read recent media coverage.
